Actuators for Diesel Engines

Woodward hydro-mechanical actuators are the vital link between the electronic governor and the engine fuel-control input. Our extensive product line provides a variety of control solutions for diesel, gas, and gasoline engines, or steam and industrial gas turbines.

APECS® Actuators

Woodward APECS® actuators work with Woodward APECS controls to provide proportional fuel control for construction, industrial, and agricultural equipment. Actuators are available with push or pull actuation, flange or base mount, 12 or 24 Vdc. Actuators come in 1.75″ (44.5 mm), 2.50″ (63.5 mm) and 3.00″ (76.2 mm) diameter.

APECS® 2000 / APECS® 2500 Linear Actuators

Woodward APECS® 2000 and APECS® 2500 linear actuators provide accurate precise positioning with a minimal number of moving parts. Many of the moving parts normally associated with electric actuators are eliminated, prolonging the MTBF (mean time between failure). These actuators are easy to install by mounting near the fuel system and direct connecting to the fuel control rod or lever. The actuator is suitable for installation on diesel, gasoline, or natural gas engines with fuel system force requirements of less than 13 pounds (58 N) of force.

EM-80 & EM-300 Gear-Motor Actuators

Woodward EM-80 and EM-300 gear-motor actuators are intended to be mounted on large diesel, gas, and gasoline engines, and on all types of turbines, to control the position of engine fuel racks, turbine fuel valves, turbine and turbocharger variable geometry, and to handle timing control. These systems are well suited for engines without a mechanical drive or hydraulic oil supply. A dedicated driver controls the actuator position and allows monitoring of most features. The EM-80 and EM-300 are freely programmable to meet many customer requirements.

EPG Actuation/Governing Systems

The Woodward 512/524 and 1712/1724 EPGs are three-component governing systems for 12 or 24 Vdc operation. All EPG systems include an actuator, an electronic speed control, and magnetic pickup. Both isochronous and droop controls are available. The EPG is designed for precise speed control of diesel, gas, or gasoline engines, and gas turbines. The governor is especially suited to prime movers without a mechanical drive or hydraulic oil supply for the governor, and which have low-mass, low-friction fuel linkages.

L-Series Position Controller

Woodward L-Series Position Controller provides a building block approach to total engine management. The microprocessor-based bi-directional actuator design easily attaches to fuel pumps, mixers, or throttle bodies. The L-Series Position Controller accepts a position command and drives the 0?60 degree output shaft to the commanded position based on an internal shaft position sensor. The high-efficiency torque motor delivers 0.34 Nxm (0.25 lb-ft) nominally over 60? travel range to operate fuel or air control devices.

PG-EG Actuator

PG-EG Actuator is an Hydraulic Powered Electric Actuator for Engine Controls. The PG-EG Actuator is used on diesel engines to replace PGA/PGG/PGE-type governors, providing the advantages of electronic control with the convenience of the existing PG-type drive and linkage. This Actuator is recommended for installations involving unattended starts. It operates with drive speeds from 200 to 1200 rpm and converts an electrical input signal into a proportional hydraulic output shaft position, to control engine fuel flow.

PGA-EG Actuator

The Woodward PGA-EG Governor/Actuator is designed specifically for applications requiring electronic engine control with mechanical backup. The governor/actuator combines the proven dependability of the hydromechanical PG governor with the flexibility of an electronic control. The mechanical governor features pneumatic tracking of the speed setting, which gives complete backup speed control from a remote location, with only a slight change in engine speed should the electronic signal fail. The PGA-EG can be used with a variety of Woodward electronic controls. The backup hydro-mechanical governor gives it redundant speed control for critical marine needs.

PGG-EG Actuator

PGG-EG governor/actuators have motor speed setting of the ballhead backup governor. The units are normally used on generator applications. Externally adjustable droop on the backup governor and load limit are standard on the PGG-EG. Setting the speed of the mechanical governor slightly higher than the maximum speed under electronic control causes the mechanical portion of the PGG-EG to always seek a fuel setting higher than the electronic control.
